Notes

Not reversible.
Knit bottom up.
Knit using the rib & ripple stitches.
Knit in the round with a circular needle.
When knitting in the round you’re always knitting the right side of your work.

Knitting Abbreviations

*– * – repeat between * to end of round
CO – cast-on (long-tail cast-on method)
DPNs – double pointed needles
K – knit stitches (K1 means to knit 1 stitch)
K2TOG – knit 2 stitches together
P – purl stitches (P2 means to purl 2 stitches)
PM – place stitch marker
RT – Right Twist – K2TOG, without dropping STS from left needle, knit into the first stitch, slip both STS to the right needle together
SM – slip stitch marker
STS – stitches

CO 72 STS, PM, join in the round

Round 1-6: *K2, P2*

Round 7: *K*

Round 8: *RT, K1*

Round 9: *K*

Round 10: *K1, RT*

Repeat Rounds 7-10, 11 more times

Note: The hat in the photo does not have a crown decrease.

Decrease for the crown (Optional):

Round 55: *K7, K2TOG, PM* (-8 STS, 64 STS remaining)

Round 56: *K6, K2TOG, SM* (-8 STS, 56 STS remaining)

Round 57: *K5, K2TOG, SM* (-8 STS, 48 STS remaining)

Round 58: *K4, K2TOG, SM* (-8 STS, 40 STS remaining)

Round 59: *K3, K2TOG, SM* (-8 STS, 32 STS remaining)

Round 60: *K2, K2TOG, SM* (-8 STS, 24 STS remaining)

Round 61: *K1, K2TOG, SM* (-8 STS, 16 STS remaining)

Round 62: *K2TOG, remove stitch marker* (-8 STS, 8 STS remaining)

End:

Without binding-off, cut the yarn leaving a 10” (25cm) tail, pull it through the remaining STS, push through the top hole to the inside and then weave in the ends.

Block, if desired.
