Notes

Not reversible.
Knit top down.
Knit flat and in the round.
Knit using the stockinette stitch.
The top front and the top back are the same.
Knit the front 1/3 and back 1/3 flat and then join in the round to finish.
When knitting in the round you’re always knitting the right side of your work.

Knitting Abbreviations

*– * – repeat between * to end of round
BO – bind-off in pattern
CO – cast-on (long-tail cast-on method)
K – knit stitches (K1 means to knit 1 stitch)
K2TOG – knit 2 stitches together
P – purl stitches (P2 means to purl 2 stitches)
PM – place marker
P2TOG – purl 2 stitches together
RS – right side
S1PW – slip one stitch purl-wise
STS – stitches
WS – wrong side
WYIB – with yarn in back
WYIF – with yarn in front

Pattern Instructions

Knitting flat

CO 44 STS

Row 1 (WS): WYIB S1PW, P41, WYIF S1PW, P1

Row 2 (RS): WYIB S1PW, K41, WYIB S1PW, P1

Repeat rows 1 & 2, 16 times, approximately 9 1/2” (24cm)

Repeat row 1, slip onto a scrap piece of yarn to save for later.

Repeat the above for the other side, ending on a wrong side row. Without removing the stitches, add the other side and join in the round.

Knit in the round for 14 1/2” (37cm), approximately 43 rows

Bottom rib edge:

Next row: K2TOG, K1 *P2, K2* P1, P2TOG

Next 4 rows: *K2, P2* BO in pattern

Create collar:

At the top, starting from the outside, sew 14 STS together, about 6” (15cm). Repeat on the opposite side, leaving an approximate 8” (20cm) gap for your head to fit through

Weave in the ends.

Lightly block to even out the stitches.
