Pattern Instructions

CO 48 STS, PM, join in the round

Note: Every 5th round you’ll do 4 cables

Rounds 5-9: *P2, K4*

Round 10: *P2, K4, P2 ,C4F*

Repeat Rounds 5-10, 3 more times for the stocking hat

Repeat Rounds 5-10, 5 more times for the slouchy hat

Note (Optional):

When the stitches get too tight switch to DPNs or a longer cable and knit using the magic loop method.

Decrease for the crown:

Round 1: *P2, K4*

Round 2: *P2, K4*

Round 3: *P2, K4, PM*

Round 4: *P2, K2, K2TOG, SM* (-8 STS, 40 STS remaining)

Round 5: *P2TOG, K3, SM* (-8 STS, 32 STS remaining)

Round 6: *K2, K2TOG, SM*  (-8 STS, 24 STS remaining)

Round 7: *K1, K2TOG, SM* (-8 STS, 16 STS remaining)

Round 8: *K2TOG, remove stitch marker* (-8 STS, 8 STS remaining)

End:

Without binding-off, cut the yarn leaving a 10” (25cm) tail, pull it through the remaining STS, push through the top hole to the inside and then weave in the ends.

Block:

To block this hat I use a saucer. Like a teacup and saucer. ;) I put it inside the hat, so the bottom “swirl” is in the center of the saucer and the saucer is bulging outward, spritz it with some water, pat dry with a clean towel and let it dry overnight.
